Senior Adults

  The Everett Park Adult Center is a multi- purpose recreation center for adults over age 50

SENIOR ADULT RECREATION

The Everett Senior Center is a multi-purpose recreation center for adults Age 50 and older.  It is located at 702 Burchfield Street in Everett Park in Maryville. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.  The Center publishes a bi-monthly newsletter/calendar of activities, which is included in the annual membership fee of $15.00 per year for an individual or $25.00 per couple.  An introductory copy may be obtained by calling the Center at 983-9422.

Senior Games Competition

Seniors Age 50 and older can compete on a District level in the following events: archery, badminton, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, race walk, racquetball, shuffleboard, team softball, swimming, table tennis, track & field, tennis, and team volleyball.  The top four winners in each event qualify to compete at State level.  District events will be held in Gatlinburg, TN, with the deadline to apply being April 9. All individual sports are offered separately for men and women in five-year age divisions beginning with Age 50.

 

Dance Programs

The Center offers several dance opportunities.  This is great exercise and a fun way to meet new people.

           

Ballroom Dancing:         Wednesdays     1:00-3:00 PM

                                                Fridays             7:00-9:00 PM

                                                Live Bands       Call for more information.

                                                Saturdays          As scheduled.

Poetry Group

The “Almost Dead Poet Society” meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 2:30 PM.  Any senior with an interest in poetry, either as a writer, reader or both, is invited to join this group.  Meetings include sharing original works and reading and reviewing the works of others. You do not have to be a writer to share in the joy of Poetry.

 

Art Opportunities

The art of Quilting is enjoyed by a Quilting Group.  Quilters meet on Tuesday afternoons from 1-3 PM. 

 

Watercolor and oil painting classes for beginner to intermediate students are offered by Jane Lawrence, an experienced instructor/artist from Texas.  New classes begin March 24th and 27th.  Cost: $50 for Center members, $55 for non-members.  Course fees do not include materials.

 

Blount Memorial Hospital Senior Services

The following free services are being offered by BMH: 

  • Caregiver’s Support Group Meetings held the first and third Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM
  • Guest Speakers as scheduled

 

Monthly Potlucks and Bingo

A potluck luncheon followed by Bingo is hosted by the Woodmen of the World every first Thursday of the month at 11:30 AM.  Bring a dish to serve at least ten people and join in the fun!  Drinks are provided.  Reservations are not required and there is no charge to play Bingo.

 

Card Playing Opportunities

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have room to add additional card groups.  Interest is growing in Canasta, Rook and Poker.  Please call 983-9422 to join in on the fun. 

 

AARP

The AARP Blount County Chapter #2296 holds its monthly meetings at the Senior Center on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 PM.

 

Income Tax Assistance

We are currently scheduling appointments for free AARP tax assistance for low and middle income individuals Age 60 and older.  Those interested should call the Center at 983-9422.

 

Computer Assistance

The East Tennessee Technology Access Center is scheduling times to meet with individuals to assist with your computer needs.  People with vision or hearing disabilities can benefit by learning how to enhance their computer output.  For assistance, please call Lorrie at 219-0130.

 

Rentals

The Senior Center’s large multi-purpose room is available for rentals.  Please call 983-9422 for fees and availability.
