TAI CHI CLASSES

Adult Beginner and Intermediate Tai Chi classes are held twice a week in the morning for 6-week sessions at the Everett Recreation Center.  Tai Chi is a progressive exercise that increases flexibility, muscular strength, and fitness with many other advantages. This specialized program has shown to help decrease the discomfort of all forms of arthritis, fibromyalgia and tendonitis. The program, which exercises the muscles and tissue around the joints, results in better support and protection of the joints. It is a suitable activity for all ages. This program is designed to improve the quality of life for people with arthritis, fibromyalgia, and tendonitis using Sun style Tai Chi, one of the four major recognized styles of Tai Chi. This style includes agile steps and exercises that have been known to improve mobility, breathing and relaxation. The movements do not require deep bending or squatting, which makes it easier and more comfortable to learn. It is especially suitable as an exercise because its movements are slow and gentle, and the level of exertion is adjustable to suit each person's physical condition. These elements of exercise also aid in the recovery from surgery, illness and rehabilitation. The instructor, Donna Dixon, is experienced in exercise instruction and planning for individuals of all levels of fitness. She is a registered nurse and clinical exercise physiologist and is ACE Certified Group Fitness and a certified Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi Instructor. She has practiced Tai Chi since 2004. Pre- registration is required, but is handled through the instructor.  For more information or to register, call 865-803-8887 or email at donnasuedixon@hotmail.com or registration forms may be obtained at www.smokymountainwellness.com.
