Refund Policy for Programs

Refunds may be given up to five (5) working days prior to the beginning of each program. If your cancellation causes the program number to fall below the required minimum, the refund will be contingent upon the vacancy being filled. After classes begin, refunds will be made for the following reasons only: 1) Illness or Injury 2) Moving from the Blount County area 3) Cancellation of the program by Parks & Rec. Refunds will be prorated according to the number of classes already held. All refunds are subject to a $5.00 administrative cost charge, unless the program has been cancelled by Parks & Rec.

Karate

Parks & Rec. has partnered with Maryville Isshinryu Karate School to offer the following classes to both youth and adults. They are the oldest martial arts school in Blount County and are accredited by the International Isshinryu Karate Association. Participants will learn self defense, sparring techniques, kata and much more. Benefits of Karate include confidence, flexibility, concentration, balance, discipline and respect.

Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running

Triple Crown Rules

This event consists of the Spring Sprint (April 11), the Scholars Run (August 8) and the Reindeer Run (December 6).  To be eligible for the Triple Crown cash awards and a special memento, participants must compete in all three races.  To be eligible to win door prizes valued at a minimum of $100, participation in two races is required. Both runners and walkers at each event are eligible for great door prizes.

This event is a 5K (3.1-miles) road race and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk and is the second event of the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running. The race begins and ends on the Maryville College campus. A portion of the proceeds from this race will fund two annual student scholarships sponsored by the Foothill Striders, Inc. Individual and team competition will take place. Special awards will be given to the Overall and Masters winners, the top three finishers in each age division, and to the top three teams in the 5K. All Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a ribbon.

Reindeer Run 5K Road Race & 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk

This run, which is the final leg of the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running, is a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to the Empty Pantry Fund. Awards will be given to the Overall and Masters winners and the top three finishers in each age division. Prizes will also be given to the best male and female Christmas costume. All Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a ribbon. The Triple Crown of Running award ceremony will take place at this event.

Beginner & Intermediate/Advanced Running Program


For Ages 18 & up and youth Ages 9 & up are welcome as long as accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the course. Participants should dress weather appropriate and bring a water bottle. As always recommended, please consult with your physician before starting any exercise program.

Beginner Level: This 10-week training program is structured to help you cross the finish line of your first 5K in 10 weeks at the Reindeer Run on December 6th (which is totally optional). This program focuses on beginners, but all levels of walkers and runners are welcome. Along the way, we’ll provide you with motivation to keep you moving, guidance and advice, weekly group training runs or walks, and educational clinics on topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear and avoiding injury. Plus, you’ll have the camaraderie of others just like you.

Intermediate/Advanced Level: This program is designed for graduates of our Beginner program or for those who are able to run 3 miles at a steady pace with limited walking breaks. This 10-week training program is designed to teach you more advanced running techniques and to help you continue on you running journey in a supportive environment. In No Boundaries II, we want to help you beat your previous personal records and set new goals for yourself, while providing guidance, motivation, weekly group training runs, and more advanced educational clinics. We’ll also cover topics designed to help you improve your 5K time such as proper pacing and good form, as well as building on previous topics like nutrition, choosing the right gear and injury prevention.

    Children will learn the fun sport of gymnastics while learning Kindergarten readiness skills and beginner gymnastics and gross motor skills. Gymnastic skills are taught in proper progressions on bright, colorful preschool equipment, with all equipment designed and sized for young hands and feet. Participants will learn beginner through intermediate skills on bars, beams, trampolines, and vaulting, as well as learn and enhance many of the gross motor skills needed. Classes are taught by a qualified instructor, with over 20 years of teaching experience.

    This class will teach and enhance skills involving handstands, cartwheels, one-arm cartwheels and bridges for both the very beginner and intermediate students. Intermediate students will also work on round-offs, backbend kick-overs, and front and back handsprings. Classes are taught with proper skill progression for the safety of the child and with enthusiasm and motivation – never intimidation. Children that are 5 years old must have started Kindergarten.

    This class is designed to teach the more advanced skills of the back handspring, round-off back handsprings, standing backtuck and front handsprings. Students in this class should have a good round-off and be able to do a back walk-over with a spot. Drills such as handstands, bridge kick-overs and jump backs will be repeated in this class to help students become a stronger tumbler.

Stream School For Kids

Stream School for Kids is a place-based learning program that focuses on STEM concepts and incorporates environmental, chemical and aquatic sciences and stream flow mathematics. Students learn how to measure river flow, identify fish, observe macroinvertebrates, and run chemical tests on water samples during this free 4-day program.

    SEWING CLASSES FOR AGES 7-14

    About the instructor: Aimee Davis is the owner of daisyeyes handmade - teaching others to sew and sharing her love of handmade throughout Knox and Blount Counties.




    Sewing 101

    This is a beginners class series that will work through the basics of sewing, starting with how to thread a needle and other basic hand sewing techniques. We will spend the first 3 classes becoming familiar with hand sewing, and the last class we will introduce sewing with a machine.

    Sewing 201

    This class series is for students who are able to sew by hand independently and are comfortable using a sewing machine.     Kids in Clay Pottery Classes

    For Ages 6-10

    Students will create fun projects as well as learn hand-building techniques such as coiling, pinching and slab work. Each class is unique and small in size. Students receive personal attention from instructor through the step-by-step process of making a pot, decorating, glazing and firing. Each class is project based and students will make a variety of bowls, dishes and sculptural art pieces. All work goes through two kiln firings; the second firing will make the pottery safe for food and drink, as well as use in the microwave and dishwasher. We use only health-approved clays and glaze-materials. Class includes clay and all firing and glaze materials.

    Tiny Tot” Triathlon

    Bring your “tiny tot” (Ages 3-6) for a fun afternoon of kid-friendly triathlon activities! Event course is modified for this age group level. Preschoolers will run, bike, and get “wet” as they make their way to the finish line where everyone receives a medal! This unique event is recreational (and not competitive) and encourages young kids to get out and get active! Bring a bicycle or tricycle (with helmet) and wear tennis shoes and comfortable athletic clothing that can get wet at the end. A family member must assist their child as they make their way through the course. Parents should wear comfortable athletic clothing as well. No swimming will take place, but participants will get “wet” as they make their way towards the finish line!

    A Spooktacular Extravaganza Halloween Fun Event

    for Families and Pets

    Come join us on Halloween for some fun activities during the Last Friday Art Walk on W. Broadway in downtown Maryville. This is a new event that replaces the annual event that has been held at the Everett Rec Center. Activities will include trick or treating at downtown businesses, a pet costume contest, a pumpkin carving contest, a magic show, and much more.

Policy for Reserving Practice Fields

This policy pertains to Little League teams and all other teams not participating in the Parks & Rec Adult Softball League. Click here for Parks & Rec teams' policy.

Reservations for practice fields are taken every Thursday, beginning March 12 through late August. Otherwise, fields are first come, first served unless being used by Parks & Rec programs such football and soccer. Teams should call at 10:00 a.m. so that everyone has the same opportunity. If you call before 10:00 a.m., you will be asked to call back, so please synchronize your watch with Parks & Rec's! Please note that field reservations are taken by phone only. No walk-ins please. Our phone lines will be very busy, so if you don't get through, please try again. When you call on Thursday, you will be reserving times for the following week (beginning the next day Friday through the following Thursday). Teams can reserve 1 field per week for 1 1/2 hours (M-F) or 2 hours (Sat. & Sun.) according to availability. Reservations are taken for the following fields: two at Everett Park, three at Sandy Springs Park (one being a small baseball field), one at Springbrook Park, and two at Pearson Springs Park (available week-ends only) for Ages 12 & under. Teams are encouraged to pick-up a Field Permit from the Parks & Rec Admin. Office to take with you to practice which shows you have the field reserved. Without your permit, you have no proof you have the field reserved!


Champion Force Athletics Cheerleading

Champion Force Athletics of Blount County is offering cheerleading classes for Ages 4-17 and every skill level from beginner (those that have never cheered) to advanced. Practices are held every Thursday at Everett Recreation Center. Class times depend on age: Ages 4-9 from 5:30-6:15pm, Ages 10-17 from 6:15-7pm, Level 5 Elite is by invitation and skills only and practice from 7-8:30pm.
