RUBY
TUESDAY’S TRIPLE CROWN OF RUNNING
This tenth annual event includes three road races held in the Blount County
area: the Spring Sprint (April 12), Scholars Run (August 16), and Reindeer Run
(December 7). To be eligible for Triple Crown cash awards and mementos,
participants must compete in all three races. The top three finishers in the
Male/Female Overall and Masters Divisions win cash awards. All Triple Crown participants are eligible
for Triple Crown door prizes. Persons
who compete only in the Reindeer Run and one other Triple Crown race will be
eligible for Triple Crown door prizes worth a minimum of $100 each. For complete information, contact the Parks

Reindeer Run
This run, which is the third leg of the Ruby Tuesday’s Triple Crown of
Running, is a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to the Empty Pantry
Fund. Awards will be given to the overall and masters
winners and the top three finishers in each age division. Prizes will also be
given to the best Christmas costumes.
All Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a ribbon. The Triple Crown of Running award ceremony
will take place at this event.

AREA 15 SPECIAL OLYMPICS
The Area 15 Special Olympics
Program is open to Blount
County citizens
age 8 years & older. The ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help
persons with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected
members of society at large, by offering them fair opportunities to develop and
demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition,
and by increasing public awareness of their capabilities and needs.
Schools and centers throughout Blount County
participate in these events. However, any person whose school or center does
not participate OR any adult who does not attend a school or center is eligible
to compete as an independent athlete. Call Cookie

competitions throughout the year.

HOMETOWN CHRISTMAS
EVENTS
Illumination of the Greenbelt
Enjoy
the City of Maryville Tree Lighting
ceremony at the pedestrian bridge at Pistol Creek Station leading to the
Library. The program will feature music,
refreshments, a candy hunt for Ages 2-12, visits with
Santa Claus and more. Event is free.

Festival of Trees
The
lawn of the Blount County Courthouse will be illuminated with a display of live
Christmas trees of all sizes, colors, and decorative themes. This unique
month-long event allows the community to enjoy the festival either by driving
by or walking through for a closer look.
The official opening of the Festival will take place on the Courthouse
lawn and will include music, refreshments, visits with Santa Claus, and train
rides for the children. For information
on entering a tree in the festival, please contact Cookie

Celebrate
the lighting of the City of Alcoa Christmas Tree
in the Upper Fields area of Springbrook
Park where the trails
will be lit with luminaria. Following the ceremony,
there will be special music, refreshments, visits with Santa Claus, and train
rides for the children. Event is free.

Santa Calls
Children
in Blount County can enjoy a very special
telephone call from Santa Claus free of
charge thanks to the continued support of volunteers from the
Maryville-Alcoa Civitan Club who provide special
phone lines from the North Pole.
