2016 Spring Sprint 5K Road Race
The annual Spring Sprint 5K sponsored by Parks & Recreation and local area sponsors took place on Saturday, April 9th in Alcoa with over 300 participants taking to the road for the race! A portion of the proceeds benefited the Blount County’s Special Olympics program. The Overall Male winner to cross the finish line was Andy Baksa with a time of 16:19, and the Overall Female winner was Kathy Wolski with a time of 18:55. The Master Male winner (Ages 40 & over) was Aaron Clark with a time of 19:03, and the Masters Female winner was Marsha Morton with a time of 22:14. The next race in the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running is the Scholars Run scheduled for August 13 at Maryville College.
Award results are available. We had an unforeseen technical difficulty at the Spring Sprint 5K due to using new race bib numbers that had "00" in front of the actual number (Ex. 00500) on the lower bar code labels on the bibs that came through the finish line and are scanned in. So, while trying to process an award report, the info was technically not wanting to merge in with the actual assigned participant number (Ex. 500) when processing results. Thank you for being patient with us as this has never happened before, and we will not be using that type of bib again! Awards can be picked up during the week (at 316 S. Everett High Road, Maryville) or can be mailed out of town if needed. We will contact you or you are welcome to notify us how you would like to receive your award. Thank you for running with us, and we apologize for the unforeseen error.
