For Ages 18 & up and youth Ages 9 & up are welcome as long as accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the course. Participants should dress weather appropriate and bring a water bottle. As always recommended, please consult with your physician before starting any exercise program.
Beginner Level: This 9-week training program is structured to help you cross the finish line of your first 5K at the Scholars Run on August 13th (which is totally optional). This program focuses on beginners, but all levels of walkers and runners are welcome. Along the way, we’ll provide you with motivation to keep you moving, guidance and advice, weekly group training runs or walks, and educational clinics on topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear and avoiding injury. Plus, you’ll have the camaraderie of others just like you.
Intermediate/Advanced Level: This program is designed for graduates of our Beginner program or for those who are able to run 3 miles at a steady pace with limited walking breaks. This 9-week training program is designed to teach you more advanced running techniques and to help you continue on you running journey in a supportive environment. In No Boundaries II, we want to help you beat your previous personal records and set new goals for yourself, while providing guidance, motivation, weekly group training runs, and more advanced educational clinics. We’ll also cover topics designed to help you improve your 5K time such as proper pacing and good form, as well as building on previous topics like nutrition, choosing the right gear and injury prevention.

Spring Sprint 5K Road Race
The annual Spring Sprint 5K Run & 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk took place on Saturday morning, April 11th in Alcoa with a crowd of 415 participants taking to the road for the race! This race kicked off the 2015 series of the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running sponsored by Parks & Recreation, Ruby Tuesday, Brookfield, and Cherokee Millwright & Mechanical. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Blount County Special Olympics program. The Overall Male Winner was Jason Altman with a time of 16:33 and the Overall Female Winner was Kathy Wolski with a time of 18:49. The Masters Male Winner (Ages 40 & over) was Lee Franklin with a time of 17:34 and the Masters Female Winner was Valerie Bachmann with a time of 21:03.
The next race in the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running is the Scholars Run scheduled for August 8th at Maryville College.
Spring Sprint 5K Road Race Overall Placements
Scholars Run 5K Road Race & 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk
This annual 5K road race and 1-mile fun run/walk, which is the second leg of the 2015 Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running, took place on Saturday, August 8th at Maryville College with almost 300 participants. A portion of the proceeds from this race fund two annual student scholarships sponsored by the Foothill Striders. The Overall Male Winner was Travis Wilson with a time of 17:12 and the Overall Female Winner was Emily Bell with a time of 18:19. The Masters Male Winner (Age 40 & Over) was Keith Gemeinhart with a time of 18:21 and the Masters Female Winner was Kathy Wolski with a time of 18:33. The next race in the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running is the Reindeer Run scheduled for December 6th in Downtown Maryville.
Reindeer Run 5K Road Race & 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk
The Reindeer Run 5k and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk sponsored by Parks & Recreation and area sponsors had a record crowd with almost 750 registered participants at this year’s race that was held on Sunday, December 6 in downtown Maryville. Several families and area running clubs participated in the race. A portion of the proceeds from this race benefit The Empty Pantry Fund. Several participants dressed in Christmas attire which made the event have a festive atmosphere! Travis Wilson was the Overall Male winner with a time of 17:24 and Kathy Wolski was the Overall Female winner with a time of 19:43. This was the final event in the 2015 Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running that is sponsored by Ruby Tuesday, Brookfield, Cherokee Millwright and Mechanical, and Parks & Recreation. The Triple Crown series will begin again in April of 2016 with the Spring Sprint 5K in Alcoa.
