This run, which is the final leg of the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running, is a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to the Empty Pantry Fund. Awards will be given to the Overall and Masters winners and the top three finishers in each age division. Prizes will also be given to the best male and female Christmas costume. All Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a ribbon. The Triple Crown of Running award ceremony will take place at this event.

For Ages 18 & up and youth Ages 9 & up are welcome as long as accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the course. Participants should dress weather appropriate and bring a water bottle. As always recommended, please consult with your physician before starting any exercise program.
This 10-week training program is structured to help you cross the finish line of your first 5K in 10 weeks at the Reindeer Run on December 6th (which is totally optional). This program focuses on beginners, but all levels of walkers and runners are welcome. Along the way, we’ll provide you with motivation to keep you moving, guidance and advice, weekly group training runs or walks, and educational clinics on topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear and avoiding injury. Plus, you’ll have the camaraderie of others just like you.
This program is designed for graduates of our Beginner program or for those who are able to run 3 miles at a steady pace with limited walking breaks. This 10-week training program is designed to teach you more advanced running techniques and to help you continue on you running journey in a supportive environment. In No Boundaries II, we want to help you beat your previous personal records and set new goals for yourself, while providing guidance, motivation, weekly group training runs, and more advanced educational clinics. We’ll also cover topics designed to help you improve your 5K time such as proper pacing and good form, as well as building on previous topics like nutrition, choosing the right gear and injury prevention.

Reindeer Run 5K Road Race
The Reindeer Run 5k and 1-Mile Run sponsored by Parks & Rec and area sponsors had over 475 registered participants at this year’s race that was held on Sunday, December 7 in downtown Maryville. A portion of the proceeds from this race benefit The Empty Pantry Fund. Several participants dressed in Christmas attire which made the event have a festive atmosphere! Andy Baksa was the Overall Male winner with a time of 16:48 and Kathy Wolski was the Overall Female winner with a time of 19:20. This was the final event in the 2014 Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running that is sponsored by Ruby Tuesday, Marathon/Mr. Gas stations, Maryville Orthopedic Clinic, and Parks & Recreation. The Triple Crown series will begin again in April of 2015 with the Spring Sprint 5K in Alcoa.

Scholars Run 5K Road Race
Almost 300 participants came out to run or walk in the 38th annual Scholars Run 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk sponsored by the Foothill Striders, Parks & Recreation and other area sponsors. The race was held at Maryville College and throughout area streets. The Overall Male Winner was Andy Baksa with a time of 15:59, and the Overall Female was Kathy Wolski with a time of 18:45. The Masters Male Winner (Age 40 & over) was Lee Franklin with a time of 18:04 and the Masters Female Winner was Stacy Jones with a time of 20:22. Awards were given for each age division, as well. This race is the second race in the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running race series sponsored by Parks & Recreation, Ruby Tuesday, Brookfield, Marathon/Mr. Gas stations, and Maryville Orthopaedic Clinic. The final race in the series, which is the Reindeer Run, will be held Dec. 7. For more information, call Parks & Rec at #983-9244.

Spring Sprint 5K Road Race
The annual Spring Sprint 5K & 1-Mile Run in Alcoa sponsored by Parks & Recreation and local area sponsors took place on Saturday morning, April 12 in Alcoa with a crowd over 425 participants taking to the road for the race! This race kicked off the series for the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running. A portion of the proceeds benefited Blount County’s Special Olympics program. The Overall Male Winner was Andy Baksa with a time of 16:09, and the Overall Female Winner was Kathy Wolski with a time of 18:27. The Male Masters winner (Ages 40 & over) was Lee Franklin with a time of 17:30, and the Female Masters winner was Jasmine Keller with a time of 20:02. The next race in the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running is the Scholars Run scheduled for August 9 at Maryville College.
