HEALTHY BLOUNT TRIPLE CROWN OF RUNNING
Triple Crown Rules
This event consists of the
Spring Sprint (April 13), the
Scholars Run (Aug. 10) and the
Reindeer Run (Dec. 8).
To be eligible for the Triple Crown cash awards and a special memento,
participants must compete in all three races. To be eligible to win
door prizes valued at a minimum of $100, participation in two races is
required. Both runners and walkers at each event are eligible for great
door prizes.
Scholars Run Road Race & Fun Run/Walk
This event is a 5K (3.1-miles) road race and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk and is the second event of the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running. The race begins and ends on the Maryville College campus. A portion of the proceeds from this race will fund two annual student scholarships sponsored by the Foothill Striders, Inc. Individual and team competition will take place. Special awards will be given to the overall and masters winners, the top three finishers in each age division, and to the top three teams in the 5K. All Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a ribbon.

Spring Sprint 5K Road Race
The annual Spring Sprint 5K & 1-Mile Run in Alcoa sponsored by Parks & Recreation and local area sponsors took place on Saturday morning, April 13 in Alcoa with a record crowd of almost 500 participants taking to the road for the race! This race kicks off the running series for the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running sponsored by Ruby Tuesday, Marathon/Mr. Gas Stations, and Maryville Orthopaedic Clinic. A portion of the proceeds benefited Blount County’s Special Olympics program. The Overall Male Winner to cross the finish line first was Geno Phillips with a time of 16:25, and the Overall Female Winner to cross the finish was Kathy Wolski with a time of 18:55. The Master Male winner (ages 40 & over) was Keith Gemeinhart with a time of 17:38, and the Masters Female winner in the Masters Division was Shelly Kirsch with a time of 23:35.
