Triple Crown Rules
This event consists of the Spring Sprint (April 12), the Scholars Run (Aug. 9) and the Reindeer Run (Dec. 7). To be eligible for the Triple Crown cash awards and a special memento, participants must compete in all three races. To be eligible to win door prizes valued at a minimum of $100, participation in two races is required. Both runners and walkers at each event are eligible for great door prizes.

This is the first event of the 2014 Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running and is a 5K (3.1 miles) road race & 1-mile fun run/walk in Alcoa. A portion of the proceeds benefit Blount County‘s Area 15 Special Olympics.

Beginner & Intermediate/Advanced Running Program
For Ages 18 & up and youth Ages 10 & up are welcome as long as accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the course. Participants should dress weather appropriate and bring a water bottle. As always recommended, please consult with your physician before starting any exercise program.
Beginner Level: This 10-week training program is structured to help you cross the finish line of your first 5K in 10 weeks at the Scholars Run on August 9th (which is totally optional). This program focuses on beginners, but all levels of walkers and runners are welcome. Along the way, we’ll provide you with motivation to keep you moving, guidance and advice, weekly group training runs or walks, and educational clinics on topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear and avoiding injury. Plus, you’ll have the camaraderie of others just like you.
Intermediate/Advanced Level: This program is designed for graduates of our Beginner program or for those who are able to run 3 miles at a steady pace with limited walking breaks. This 10-week training program is designed to teach you more advanced running techniques and to help you continue on you running journey in a supportive environment. In No Boundaries II, we want to help you beat your previous personal records and set new goals for yourself, while providing guidance, motivation, weekly group training runs, and more advanced educational clinics. We’ll also cover topics designed to help you improve your 5K time such as proper pacing and good form, as well as building on previous topics like nutrition, choosing the right gear and injury prevention.

Reindeer Run 5K Road Race
The FINAL Race of the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running
The Reindeer Run, a 5k and 1-Mile Run, sponsored by Parks & Rec and area sponsors, had 502 registered participants at this year’s race that was held on Sunday, December 8 in downtown Maryville. A portion of the proceeds from this race benefit The Empty Pantry Fund. Several participants dressed in Christmas attire which made the event have a festive atmosphere! Alan Horton was the Overall Male winner with a time of 16:31 and Stephanie Pesterfield was the Overall Female winner with a time of 19:22. This was the final event in the 2013 Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running that is sponsored by Ruby Tuesday, Marathon/Mr. Gas stations, Maryville Orthopedic Clinic, and Parks & Recreation. The Triple Crown series will begin again in April of 2014 with the Spring Sprint 5K in Alcoa.

Second Race of the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running
Over 400 participants came out to run or
walk in the 37th annual Scholars Run 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk
sponsored by the Foothill Striders, Parks & Recreation and other
area sponsors. The race was held at Maryville College and throughout
area streets. The Overall Male Winner was Alan Horton with a time of
16:11 and the Overall Female was Kathy Wolski with a time of 18:49. The
Masters Male Winner (Age 40 & over) was Geno Phillips with a time
of 16:23 and the Masters Female Winner was Robin Miller with a time of
22:27. Awards were given to the top three finishers in each age
division as well. This race is the second race in the Healthy Blount
Triple Crown of Running race series sponsored by Parks & Recreation,
Ruby Tuesday, Marathon/Mr. Gas stations, and Maryville Orthopaedic
Clinic. The final race in the series, which is the Reindeer Run, will
be held Sunday, December 8 in Maryville.

First Race of the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running
The annual Spring Sprint 5K & 1-Mile Run in Alcoa sponsored by Parks & Recreation and local area sponsors took place on Saturday morning, April 13 in Alcoa with a record crowd of almost 500 participants taking to the road for the race! This race kicks off the running series for the Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running sponsored by Ruby Tuesday, Marathon/Mr. Gas Stations, and Maryville Orthopaedic Clinic. A portion of the proceeds benefited Blount County’s Special Olympics program. The Overall Male Winner to cross the finish line first was Geno Phillips with a time of 16:25, and the Overall Female Winner to cross the finish was Kathy Wolski with a time of 18:55. The Master Male winner (ages 40 & over) was Keith Gemeinhart with a time of 17:38, and the Masters Female winner in the Masters Division was Shelly Kirsch with a time of 23:35.
