Full Time Maintenance Worker // FLSA Status: Non-Exempt // Pay Scale: $16.52-$17.27
General Definition of Work
Performs basic semiskilled work maintaining and repairing parks, ball fields, playground equipment, buildings and facilities and related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent and/or Maintenance Crew Leader. Limited oversight is exercised over part-time summer help.
Essential Functions
The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.• Mows grass, edges sidewalks and curbs, trims trees and shrubs, plants flowers, repairs playground equipment.
• Prepares athletic fields for playing; marks lines; cuts grass; waters ball fields.
• Operates a variety of power equipment.
• Makes minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Performs custodial duties; cleans bathrooms; paints facilities; picks up litter and empties trash receptacles.
• Plants and transplants trees, shrubs and flowers; trims, mulches, waters and prunes trees and shrubs; sews grass seed; aerates grass areas.
• Cuts down dead trees and maintains trees and bushes.
• Installs posts, fences and signs.
• Maintains trails.
• Assists with set-up and works during special events.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in general maintenance work; general knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the standard building trades; general knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class; general knowledge of the methods used in the preparation of baseball and softball fields; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED with certifications as indicated in the Special Requirements section and minimal experience working with athletic fields and various equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical RequirementsThis work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing and walking, frequently reaching with hands and arms and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and pushing or pulling; work has no special vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; worker is regularly working near moving mechanical parts and exposed to outdoor weather conditions, frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposed to the risk of electrical shock and exposed to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. heavy traffic, large earth-moving equipment).
Special Requirements• CPR & First Aid certification.
